BSc (Chiropractic), ICAK

I was 8 months old when chiropractic discovered me.

My parents consulted Chiropractic as a ‘last resort’, and I am truly thankful they did!

We discovered that Chiropractic does not treat or fix anything, but rather aids and restores the body’s natural drive towards being healthy, happy and functioning optimally.

Chiropractic became a lifestyle for myself and my family from that day on.

I was very privileged being able to go through my childhood observing the wonderful side effects of a body that is working as it should, clear and connected, better function, better health and a better life.

I grew into a healthy, thriving and energetic teenager. I tried every sport under the sun. Eventually settling into trampolining and gymnastics which I continue to have a deep passion for.

As a competitor and coach I was privileged to travel to New Zealand and Australia, which put my body under extremes of stress both internally and externally.

When I looked around and saw so many of my friends and competitors with injury and poor recovery which affected their performance and success as athletes, I am truly grateful that I was doing as much as I could to insure I had an edge.

I originally wanted to be a pilot. However it took a 7 metre free fall, which broke both my arms, my collar bones, jaw, nose and ribs, to knock some sense into me!

I spent 8 months in an out of hospital, failed surgeries and plenty of pain killers which left my body in a mess. My road to recovery was long, spending many hours in Physiotherapy and Chiropractic sessions. It was this time that my respect for healing professions skyrocketed and I returned to what had been staring me in the face from the start. I decided to become a Chiropractor.

I studied for five years at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, after which I began additional study on cranial faults, extremity correction, specialised spinal and muscle techniques, nutritional deficiencies and stress management, culminating in my international certification in Applied Kinesiology.

I am now serving with the Team at Calder Chiropractic, where I started my journey so long ago and have my sights set on Functional Neurology and the impact that it provides in conjunction with what we currently offer.

My passion is for helping people get the most quality out of life through enhancing their awareness around nutrition, stress, nerve and muscle function, the spine and how these aspects make up our greater health picture.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science, (with majors in Psychology and Physiology) from Auckland University, Angela completed a degree in Chiropractic, from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in 2001. Since graduating Angela has become certified in Applied Kinesiology and nutrition as well as completing many other postgraduate courses in Chiropractic techniques and management. Previously Angela had been working with Dr Bryan Hale in Christchurch as a specialist in the Hale Technique. With her belief in an integrated approach to health care she is able to offer a large amount of experience in dealing with physical, emotional and mental imbalances. Currently, Angela is completing her post-graduate training in Functional Medicine, which will further her knowledge in the health and wellness field and allow her to become a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP).

As a specialist in the Hale Technique, her care involves gentle Chiropractic Techniques, Applied Kinesiology, Acupressure, Homeopathic, Nutritional therapies and an understanding of the fundamental relationship between mind, body and emotions. The Hale technique is able to integrate the physical, emotional and mental levels of health and Angela has experienced its benefits first hand. Angela regularly attends seminars and reads extensively to further her knowledge on health and wellness.

Angela’s journey with chiropractic started whilst she was at Auckland University. She learnt that chiropractic is more than fixing headaches or back pain and is actually about improving health and wellness. She changed her science degree and added the chiropractic degree so she could help people with their health issues.

Angela's passion lies in helping people with stress-related disorders and providing strategies on how people can get back into balance. Prolonged physical and emotional stress lead to a variety of health-related issues such as digestive problems, sleep issues, fatigue, depression, anxiety, headaches, low immunity and emotional fragility to name a few. With the Hale Technique Angela is able to get to the root cause of the problem and guide people in addressing their particular issue.

Angela balances her time at Calder Chiropractic Centre with seminars in health and wellness. In her spare time she enjoys snowboarding, sailing, horse riding and the gym as well as spending time with her family. Having a teenage son means she is great with relating to young people. Angela believes that everyone can benefit from having “health check-ups” and that being proactive in life and health can reward us with many benefits in years to come. Angela’s passion for health and wellness in all levels makes her an asset to Calder Chiropractic Centre.

You are welcome to email and ask how Dr Angela may be able to help with your anxiety, depression, increasing your immunity, fatigue and many other issues.

I come from a background of Chiropractic. My grandfather was one of the first chiropractors in NZ, I grew up with regular adjustments and a healthy lifestyle. I worked as an accountant for a while but I soon realized my calling was to help others in a natural health profession so changed my direction and studied Chiropractic.

My passion for helping others fuelled my desire to learn as much as I could, I learned Acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology, Neurology and many other techniques. This passion lead me to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as part of the world chiropractic team.

I am still learning.

Originally from Sweden, studied at AECC in Bournemouth U.K. and graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1981. I chose chiropractic because I wanted to be able to help people in our community function better. Even before graduating, I had realised that health is much more than a well-functioning musculoskeletal system. My journey into further study started and has not stopped yet.

Over the years my area of interest has changed and evolved, I started with Applied Kinesiology, learned as much as I could about nutrition, homeopathy and emotional wellbeing, the importance of posture, balance, and foot mechanics.
The next step was hormones and fertility, having healthy babies which lead me into Paediatric Neurology, which grew into Functional Neurology (FN). The study of FN occupies most of my so-called “spare time", it is a most fascinating science.

What is my passion? Being able to provide balance and health to the families in my community, to serve humankind at the highest level!
